Alerts and checks

What is on an incident page?

Short answer

An incident page shows why the app called a site down, with the checks it rests on. Open a site and look under Incidents and evidence. It shows when the incident was open, the rule that opened it, and the stored checks of each region, oldest first.

The evidence of a check

Each check lists the region, the time in UTC, the result and what the region saw. For a web page that is the status code (or that no answer came), the number of redirects, whether the certificate was verified and which certificate it was, the DNS answer used, the address connected to and the timings in milliseconds. The checks that confirmed the failure and the checks that confirmed the recovery are listed separately.

What changed

Beside the incident, the What changed timeline lists the tracked changes on the site: a new DNS answer, a different certificate, a changed redirect, a search-visibility signal. A change shortly before an incident is marked with how many minutes before the incident started. Nothing is listed for a signal that is not tracked yet; the timeline says which ones are not.

What your client sees

The incident page is for you. A client sees only the confirmed incident on the status page, never regions, addresses or evidence, and only the summary you wrote.
