Status pages and reports

Can a status page use my own domain?

Short answer

Yes, on the Team, Agency and Agency Plus plans: a status page can answer on a name such as status.your-company.com. This part is built but has not been tested with real DNS and TLS yet, so try it first on a page that is not urgent.

Steps

  1. Open the status page, find Your own domain, enter the host name and press Add domain. Use a name under a domain you control: no https://, no path, no wildcard and no IP address.
  2. Publish the two DNS records the page shows, exactly as written, at your DNS provider. The TXT record proves that the name is yours. The CNAME sends visitors to the page. A bare domain cannot hold a CNAME: use your provider’s alias or flattening feature, pointing at the same target.
  3. The app checks by itself for 3 days, and Check DNS now checks at once. When both records are seen, the page is served on your name with a certificate made for it. Nothing is served on a name before that.
  4. Publish the page itself. A verified domain on a page that is not published shows visitors “not found”.

The states

  • Waiting for DNS: the records are not both seen yet. DNS changes can take a while.
  • Verified: both records were seen. They are checked again every few hours.
  • Not verified: they did not appear within 3 days. Fix them at your DNS provider and check again to start over.
  • Disabled: a record that was there is gone, so the page is no longer served on this name. Put it back and it switches on again by itself.

Remove domain stops the page showing on that name at once. The DNS records stay at your provider until you delete them.
